More Smashing Pig Smallmouth Bass- I love these fish

Made it up to the Wolverine state again. Brought Niu this time. I hung back and let him catch the 20"'s. He got 3 in 2 days and I got 1-20.5" He's had a tough year, with the job market, no health insurance, and needing to stay sponsored to stay in the country. If you need a data analyst/statistician, drop me a DM.

We fished 3 hours one day and 11 the next.

Things were redonk.

On Friday Niu got this 20.5", I got 3-19.5.

Saturday was incredible, we got a combined 46 SMB with 3-20.5-20.75", 21 over 18" and 14 over 19". He got 2/3 20's and lost a few big guns. I did 9 over 19" and 14 over 18". Heaven. The moments!

That was Torture 4/11/2026 - Another 20"

Went for my first long wade of the year. Water clear to 24", moving fast. My boots were not grabbing on rocks well, which made it a bit exhausting to walk upstream so far. (no I didn't gain weight in Puerto Rico, it was the boots). Strange day. Caught fish on TRD, crank, chadshad. But no real pattern.

Got this 20" on a worm. I wasn't even deadsticking it.

Probably one of my most unskilled fishing attempts in forever. I suck with a baitcaster in the woods or in water up to my waist. But even when I wasn't using the baitcaster, the monocular lasik I had 5 months ago has proven a mistake for fishing.  I would tell myself
"don't cast in that tree", and then bounce the crank off the tree. "Don't cast into that over hang". You got it, exactly into the overhang. Water willows were a foot underwater, so every other cast was snagging at times, and since I was throwing a 60$ chadshad, I'd have to go unsnag it.

I just felt like a stuffed sausage mostly. One great big sausage who, bungles, slips and casts, but has an overentitled sense of deserving big fish moments. In my head I was crying about my lack of performance. I'd already caught a 20" ( see entitled comment above.) I've been too much on that kayak with the torqeedo for over a year.

People, I had to sit. It was a beautiful day.  I enjoyed it.

At the end I found a 17 and 16, to make a decent day. 14 SMB 20", 17", 16", 15",  20" drum,

All Time Indiana Winter Slay Day 2-28-26

Took my kayak out for some last ditch winter fishing, mainly threw a jerkbait. Bite was pretty hot with a long pause and proper dive depth. I got 51 smallmouth bass, 3 three Kentucky spotted bass, a walleye, sauger, Asian carp, 2 Quillback. Water was 41 F at 8:00 in the morning and got up to about 43. Which is about perfect to throw that Rerange jerkbait. Meanwhile MegaBass 110 hasn't landed a fish all year. They just don't cast into the wind well and are fragile. When it gets cold, I know exactly where they are and prefer to dangle a hair jig beneath a float. 51 SMB 5-19"-19.75, 3-18.5"-18.75", 7-17"-17.75", 5-16", 6-15".
